i left behind my sister and her two daughters by mid 2015 both her daughters (both are in their early twenties) were disfellowshipped and left the organization.

she has decided to go to costa rica as a missionary (i guess that's what they are still calling them, unless that has changed, been gone so long i don't know if they came up with a new term for it).

Sounds like she has decided to serve where "the need is great". Costa Rica is a popular "need greater" destination. Usually she would have to be invited by a host congregation, but it is not unheard of for JWs to just pack up and head to places like Costa Rica or Belize. There are english speaking only congregations scattered throughout CR that have 30 to 60 publishers. Typically 2 or 3 elders. Tourist destinations are usually where these english congregations are set up. She will have a good time. Pioneer hours are simple to make as much of the territory is rural and spread out and accessible to foot traffic only.

But nearly everywhere you go, the locals are Catholic and the tourists do not want to waste their time being preached to. The adventure will be high, generally the social aspects of the congregations are high as well. Lots of "get togethers" for any and every reason.

After a while the novelty wears off. You grow weary of aros con pollo. And dealing with insects and other wildlife just becomes a pain in the ass. Most new "need greaters" last a couple of years and then head home or move on.

Theft is a huge concern too. It happens all the time everywhere in CR. If it is not strapped to your body, it will be taken.

Question about the new blood card

ok......i really need to know the answer to the following question and scenario.

supposing a child at age 14 decides to get baptized.

the child is then given the new blood card which has now tightened things up with respect to lawyers etc.

The specific anomalies mentioned above are rare and nowhere near standard procedure in all but 3 of the United States where minors may be given authority over their own medical decisions.

In a life threatening situation where blood is required for emergent stabilization, which is particularly true in acute traumatic situations, the transfusion of a minor is performed 99.9% of the time regardless of the presence of a court order.

By Ex-Parte the following day those minors are made ward of the State to ensure the preemptive decision can not be challenged. It is a system designed to ensure the power of the Court 24/7.

No matter what the Watchtower draws up regarding their blood policies, minors will continue to be given life saving blood transfusions in emergency and non emergency situations. The courts are set up to resolve these issues 24/7.

The two elders threaten my sister again

as i reported here in this forum, some time ago, my sister was constantly harried by two elders so as to be submitted to a judiciary committee for apostasy.

these two elders were constantly hounding her in the street when she walks to go to her job.

so she had to send them a notary letter in which she wrote that she would attend the judiciary committee only with her attorney.

In Los Angeles after showing the judge video of elders standing in the dark at my entry waiting for me to come home at night and entering my garage as I pulled my vehicle in, I was granted permanent restraining orders against each elder individually and any "third party" related to the "congregation" and "organization of Jehovah's Witnesses"

Through video evidence once again, I was able to bring violation charges through the city attorney's office upon two separate individuals. While the penalty for them was light, 10 days community service, it sent a clear message and I have not had any issues for several years with local JWs. It also elevated the matter from civil to criminal and that seems to have put the elders in check.

It really depends on the lengths you want to go through to use the law in your location and how obstinate the JWs will be.

Be careful about using the "suicidal depression" tactic. If you have children or are going through a nasty divorce it will most certainly be used against you in court.

I was disappointed in the season finale. Yes we gained insights into Morgan's character. We were introduced finally to the real Negan. But there was no crescendo in this episode. I felt slighted with being teased with a fade to black that left me as clueless as the teaser a week before. I can't help but walk away from this season finale feeling I was victim of commercial marketing 50% story, 50% commercials and left hanging on who Lucille claims. The 100th issue of the comics did not shy away from giving the goods and I feel the TV series disrespected that assumed tradition by baiting and switching. Great you hooked fans to tune in months from now to find out who buys the farm, but you may have driven fans away who feel they deserved more. Writers are going to have to make it up to fans when the season resumes, but I think it is a tall order. Not the best season finale. There are clues if you study camera angles and lighting and even script. But I won't post my guess as it would be a spoiler. Still a marvelous TV show. Still a fan. Just slightly disappointed.

I agree with what Simon said, although I think more people today are jumping out of the boat and just keeping it within swimming distance. A decade ago someone would jump out of the boat, grab you by your neck and haul you back on board. Not anymore. Most are happy to watch the drifters, some even do so longingly.

massive numbers of people are out in chicago and have shut his event down.

there were scuffles inside the event.. despite his lame attempt to pretend the violence he instigates is nothing to do with him it's clear that it is as the cnn quotes during the last event showed only too well.. this doesn't happen at anyone else's events - candidates have even given up the stage to protesters, not called for them to be beaten and punched.. trump is an ugly person and this is just a small taste of what a future under his rule would be like.. shame on the gop for not kicking his ass out.
